You are continuously learning throughout your lifetime. Why not improve things you may not like?
Self-Improvement
Self-improvement is pretty self-explanatory, it is the improvement of one's knowledge, status, or character by one's own efforts. It's the quest to make ourselves better in any and every facet of life which starts within you. When going through this stage of change you really have to understand who YOU are as an individual. The real question is are you willing to change?
Self Awareness
Whether it be good or bad you must accept it which will help you be able to move on for the better. This is also known as self awareness. We often lie to ourselves about the progress we are making on important goals. For example, I may be trying to learn a new language, and then tell myself I've been practicing consistently knowing I skipped practicing last night to watch an episode of Power. This often happens a lot.
We use small phrases that are not too harsh such as "I'm doing fine" or "I'm trying my hardest" knowing you’re not doing fine or you need to go harder. Statements like these aren't hard measurements to see if you’re really improving because you’re not being true to yourself.
Things like journals can help you right down your accomplishments and check off things you got done and need to get done.
Stop Setting Goals and Create
Another way to self improve yourself is to stop setting goals and worry more so about the system or way you are going to accomplish them.
When you set a goal for yourself you are only limiting yourself to what you think you can do when maybe more is in store for you. For instance, say you are on a team, your goal is to win that championship but your system is the way the players play to win. Whether you win or you lose you still have a system of how you plan on winning the game because that is the 'goal'. It all depends on how good the system is. By saying this, it's not to say goals are useless because they sure aren't. But many problems arise when you dwell on thinking about your goals and not enough time designing the system to help you reach that goal.
Motivation
Along with these three ideas comes motivation. It is easy for people to lose interest or focus on the prize when there is no one to keep it in your face. A couple of ideas that may help you can be to:
Keep a jar of your accomplishments, this will allow you to look back at what you’ve done when feeling discouraged to keep going.
Find a support system of like minded people, this will all keep you and your friends in check when anyone falls off and be encouraging. Of course this favor should be reciprocated for you to be helpful to others. If you are an antisocial person you can always look online and find others who are trying to accomplish similar things.
Always spend some of your time learning something new. One of the great things about self improvement is that one action taken to improve yourself tends to boost your motivation, and increase your chances of successfully achieving your other goals. Learning new things is a great way to do this.
Vision
Lastly, is vision. Your vision is an inspirational description that can map out your mental health in the next 10 or 20 years…or even later. You must have a vision of how you want to see yourself in your final results. By creating this personal vision, you are able to design your destination with what you find most important to you.
