Event sponsorships are when companies fund an event in exchange for something of value. This could include increased brand exposure, access to attendee data, speaking opportunities, or discounted tickets. Companies sponsor events with the hopes of growing and improving their organization.

Financial Event Sponsorship

Financial or cash sponsorships are usually the main type of traditional sponsorship. This is when a sponsor offers an event organizer money in exchange for promotion or other benefit they believe will benefit their organization. Large events can have multiple event sponsorship options available. As an event producer, make sure you have your goals laid out for the event before approaching businesses and asking them to sponsor your event. This will ensure that you are asking for enough money so that the event can be the best it can be.

In-Kind Sponsorship

In-kind sponsorship is a type of sponsorship where a business sponsors an event by providing goods and or actual services. In-kind sponsorships do not require cash or any financial payment to be made. This completely eliminates the cost of buying goods or paying for operational services. Sometimes more sponsors are willing to help your event this way rather than writing a check. In-kind sponsorship is a great way to help defray set-up and production costs, especially for start-up events. This way you don’t have to have as large of a budget but still look like you spent a lot.

Media Event Sponsorships

The use of technology grows rapidly worldwide, especially through the use of smartphones. This globally impacts direct marketing in particular. Due to this, media event sponsorships expanded beyond traditional media channels to social media.

Traditional media channels like TV, Radio, and Print are still very effective to promote your event. Getting a media organization to sponsor your event and provide you with media coverage and promotion is ideal. But due to the demand, this can be difficult to obtain or sometimes there is still some type of cost associated depending on the size of the organization.

Social media or digital outlets may be more available and willing to sponsor since they are less encumbered by cost and are also looking for promotion as well. These types of sponsorships are best for organizations that don't have a large budget to work with or non-profit organizations.

Media sponsorship is an excellent way to advertise your event to people. plus it saves you money and time on actual advertisements. Depending on the outlet, you may be able to reach a large or more targeted demographic.
