Mind of a High School Teacher

Does waking up at 6 am and leaving your job between 3-5 pm remind you of your high school days? That’s the schedule high school teachers have to relive.

There are two different types of teachers in high school: those who actually enjoy their job and genuinely want to teach young children and those who just want their pay. The teachers who care about the students get treated the best as opposed to the teacher trying to get through the week just to get their paycheck. Teachers who took the job to change the lives of their students are what every kid in their teens needs: a mentor or even a parental figure in their lives.

The Obstacles High School Teachers Face

1) The first obstacle teachers face is being able to earn respect both from co-workers and their students. Being able to assert respect while making it known that you love to have fun as well is key. It can define if the job will be less or more stressful. Authority in the classroom is necessary so that the kids that want to learn can do so without distractions. Having a good relationship with your co-workers is also essential. It's hard to make plans for your classroom so teaming up with other teachers to create engaging lessons can make your job easier and provide your students with a better learning experience.

2) Lack of school funding can make it very hard for teachers and students to have a good learning environment. Teachers need supplies to help the students engage more, and many schools can’t provide them so teachers sometimes take money out of their own pockets to supply the supplies or reward the students with incentives like snacks and parties. Other than that, some schools also lack the funding for basic technology to make learning compressive and more entertaining. All teachers want is for their kids to enjoy the subjects they teach and be prepared to use what they learn in the real world.

3) Teachers believe they do not make what they deserve. They’re convinced that having to deal with students' emotional states while having to plan and teach them every day, is something they should be compensated for especially when not all kids are easy to deal with. According to https://www.indeed.com/career/high-school-teacher/salaries/New-York--NY, high school teachers make an average, of 65k per year. But in some states, teachers get paid better than others. California, New York, and Washington are generally the states that pay very well for teachers.

Benefits of Being a High School Teacher

What could be good about being a teacher in this day in age?

1) Watching children grow up right in front of your eyes into their personalities and the people they want to become.

2) Teachers are privileged to change a child's heart and lead them on the right path in life. In turn,  listening to kids’ stories and experiences is an amazing; opportunity because you're not only teaching them, they teach you too.

3) Teaching can bring out your inner child because of how creative and free-willed you can be in a good-mannered classroom.

4) Vacations for teachers are so beneficial because they also have time for themselves and their families. They also get paid if they have their sick days saved up and don’t use them. In the Summer, they get time to themselves for two months to rejuvenate the mind and body.

5) The job security for teachers is very high. Due to the high demand for good teachers, it is very rare for a teacher to get fired.

6) Teachers also receive a good retirement package. They can retire with a pension and not have to be concerned in their later years.

With the right techniques and approach, teaching can easily be one of the most fun, educating, free-willed and self-serving jobs you can do.
